Online Payroll Help - Sick Leave

Sick Leave is calculated in accordance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, as follows:

The sick leave cycle is the 36 months following the employee’s start of employment, and every 36 month period thereafter.

The sick leave entitlement is 6 weeks per 36 months cycle. That means 30 paid days off for employees that work 5 days a week, 24 paid days off for employee that work 4 days a week, etc.

During the first 6 months of employment, employees are not entitled to the amounts mentioned above, but rather 1 day per 26 days worked.

If an employee has been absent from work for more than two consecutive days or on more than two occassions during an eight-week period, you have the right to refuse paying sick leave if the employee can’t produce a medical certificate stating that the employee was unable to work for the duration of the employee’s absence on account of sickness or injury.
